I am Sorry!!!

Hi guys,

How is it going? I hope you are doing great! It has been a long time! I know I abandoned the blog. I had some issues with the domain name and I tried so hard to correct it but since everything moved to Google it seemed impossible. After trying I gave up and looked past it. Tell me why today I decide to Google santedelavie and I see my blog with the domain name changed from santedelavie.com to santedelavie.blogspot.com. The new domain name is santedelavie.blogspot.com.

I hope you are doing great! A lot has happened. My health and fitness is still on. I took a break because of Ramadan but I am definitely getting back to the gym. I hope everything is going great. I would love to hear from you. I am sorry about my long hiatus. I know I have apologised in the past about this and I slacked again! Please forgive me. I would improve this time, I promise.

Thank you everyone, its not Miss Bee, its Mummy...xx

How I get protein with my pescetarian diet

Hello everyone,

Firstly I want to say thank you for stopping by and secondly I hope you are doing great. I was not able to get anyone on my pescetarian bandwagon yet but I am still hopeful. If you are interested in joining me please click here to read about it.

I want to share with you a few things I do to get my protein in while on this diet. My sister's friend asked her and she gave me an idea to do a full post about it. Some of them include:

  • egg: boiled or fried;
  • soy milk (which is also a good source of calcium);
  • grains (bulgur wheat, quinoa, brown rice);
  • tofu;
  • chick peas;
  • beans;
  • seafood (fish, shrimp, tuna);
  • egg plant;
  • veggie meat substitute;
  • walnuts;
  • fresh vegetables (broccoli, spinach, peas);
  • oats;
  • seeds/nuts (chia, flax, cashew nuts);
  • Bread (whole wheat, rye, sprouted grain, ezekiel)

Staying away from meat and its products has been challenging and interesting. I have been able to increase my intake of some of the foods I mentioned above which is really great. Please share some of the things you eat that are high in protein. Thank you to all my kind readers, I hope to receive some feedback from you.

Until next time guys,
Its not Miss Bee, its Mummy..xx

30 day Pescetarian Diet challenge

Hi guys,

As I mentioned in my last post, my sisters and I started this Pescetarian diet which is similar to a vegetarian or plant based diet but includes seafood (any animal that spends 100% of its time underwater). Anything that is gotten from the flesh of an animal other than fish (e.g beef, chicken, turkey, bison, veal, rabbit, cheese, butter,) anything that is made from the list mentioned above which includes chicken gravy, meat stock, chicken broth etc. Make sure to check ingredients of food for any kind of produce containing the above listed before purchasing it.

Some the foods we eat for this diet include:
  • fish (salmon, tilapia, sea bass, stock fish);
  • seafood (shrimps, scallops, crab, squid, mussels);
  • vegetables (any type either blended as juice or cooked);
  • milk substitute (soy milk, almond milk);
  • oats by itself or used to make oatmeal pancakes;
  • fruits;
  • potatoes (irish or sweet);
  • eggs;
  • bread (be sure to make sure the ingredients are not derived from land animals)

The first couple of days were crazy as we had to be careful with what we ate. We had to read the ingredients of food at the grocery store before making any purchases. At a point, I was like 'Ah! this diet is hard oh..lol' I remember we were at the food court at the mall, and there was this Asian lady standing with meat samples from the Chinese restaurant. My sister dearest swayed up to the lady, picked a stick of meat and it went into her mouth. I was watching her the whole time thinking to myself what is this girl doing? Then I yelled, you are not supposed to eat meat and she is like OMG I am so sorry. That was a funny experience but having other people around you who are as dedicated makes it easier by the day.

I would like to challenge you guys, yes YOU into doing this challenge. Though we are six days into it but you can start now. Today is the 6th day of the month, better late than never eh :) I believe together we can motivate and help each other achieve our goals towards improving our health. I would love if you could post pictures of your meals on Instagram and experience with this diet either on Instagram by hash tagging santedelavie (#santedelavie) or by commenting on this post.

I would like for you to share with me the reason you have decided to try this diet out and what it means for you. For me, doing this is a great way to detox and stay in shape. It is a great way to be innovative and cook my meals. Also I am muslim and I am at that point in my life where I am getting deeper in Islam; one of the things I have been trying to work on is eating Halal food (this means food that is permitted for consumption in Islam) but because of my love for meat, I always slip on this. Anytime I eat, I always have some meat product with my food. But doing this diet is going to discipline me with that and I look forward to sharing my pictures and experiences with you all as well. Please research and share different options you have included in this diet as we are all new in this. I will definitely be sharing my findings with everyone.

Thank you for stopping by,

Been too long!

Hi guys,

How is it going? I know! It's been 4 months since I updated the blog and I am sorry! I started a new program which is very intensive and I had no clue on how to juggle school work and regular updates. I want to say thank you to the old and new readers who checked out my page. I will definitely make out time to do some regular updates even if it is once a week. I realized the reason for starting this blog was my passion for everything relating to one's health and I wanted to share with the rest of the world. Ignoring the blog was not easy for me as it constantly crossed my mind but I just could not find the time to put up a post but as I said, I would work on that and improve on my updates.

Happy new year everyone! It is 2014, I am scared in a way about this year but I am very thankful for family, the gift of life and the opportunity tomorrow gives me. I hope you had a wonderful 2013 and I wish you a better 2014 ahead.

I and my sisters started this 'pescetarian diet' beginning of this year and we are 6 days into it. It is very interesting and I am loving it so far. I will do a separate post about what this diet entails. Again, I am very sorry for the lack of updates. I promise to make major improvements.

Thanks for stopping by.

"Whats in my cupboard"

So I decided to do a "what's in my cupboard" just to give you guys a general idea of the things I buy.

Top shelf from left to right:
  • No sodium canned corn
  • Low sodium pink salmon
  • Thai Lite coconut milk
  • Chai seeds
  • Granola
  • Almond butter
  • Soy butter
  • Honey Dijon Mustard
  • Almer accents canned tomato
  • Green tea

  • Honey roasted sesame sticks
  • coconut flakes
  • Qia superfood breakfast cereal
  • Gogo Quinoa 4 grains hot cereal
  • Kale and chia seeds chips.

 Bottom Shelf from left to right:

  • Simply Natural pasta sauce
  • Spelt flour
  • Organic brown sugar
  • Brown rice pasta
  • Quick oats
  • Brown rice
  • Bulgur wheat

  • Veggie chips
  • Red and original quinoa mixed together
  • Whole wheat  basmati rice
  • Nut mix

That's basically what's in my cupboard. I forgot to include my flax seeds and my organic honey. I have a variety of grains because I get bored easily so I like changing up things once in a while. Also, I usually don't eat pasta (i prefer roasted spaghetti squash) but once in a while, I like to spoil myself and have the brown rice pasta.

But that's about it.
You may leave a comment down below if you want to know more about anything on the list.

Breakfast option: Chia seeds cereal

Hi guys!

School is back! yayy! which means that you might be time constrained especially if you have morning classes which also means that you might opt to getting something to eat from Starbucks, Tim Hortons or even skipping breakfast which is the most important meal of the day.

So Fear no more because I have come up with a simple breakfast recipe that can be prepared the night before and tastes even better the morning after and its pretty easy to put together. Oh and its very light, refreshing and nutrient packed.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoon of chia seeds
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 2 teaspoons of coconut flakes (or more)
  • mango

Pour the chia seeds into a jug, then add the almond milk, coconut flakes and mango. Mix together and let it seat for a while (allow the chia seeds to rise). I usually do mine overnight so the chia seeds can really rise.
